The Mindi Gang of Surat, notorious for eluding justice, holds a record for committing several serious offenses, including assaulting the police. However, with latest action taken by the district’s Athwalines Police, several members of the gang have been successfully arrested and charged for alleged anti-social activities.
It is interesting to know that the police managed this feat only by recruiting the help of Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organized Crime Act (GUJCTOC). The terrorism unit helped the local police to track down the gang and get the members captured. The Athwalines Police has now detained five members, along with its leader Arif Mindi.
Reportedly, cases for murders, abductions, extortion, bullying, Land grabbing, and many others have been filed against the gang. A few names of the gang members that are known are Arif Mindi, the leader, Fahad Mindi, Kaizar Mindi, Uheed Mindi, Anas Mindi, Junaid, Nadeem Sheikh, Alauddin, and Mawiya Kumbhar.
In the past, Surat Police arrested a few members of the Mindi Gang, when they clashed with the family member of Afzal Ranguni, Congress Leader. In another case, the seven Gang members were arrested after violating Covid protocols.
