| Updated: May 4, 2024 20:29

An Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy came under terrorist attack in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on May 4. The attack resulted in injuries to several military personnel, according to security officials.

As per the report, five airmen are injured and one is reportedly critical. They have all been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The attack took place in the Sanai village of Surankote. Following the attack, reinforcements from the Indian Army and local police were immediately dispatched to the area to gather more information and assess the situation.

In response to the attack, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit initiated cordon and search operations in the vicinity, as per official reports.

The targeted vehicles were promptly secured inside the airbase in the general area near Shahsitar, officials confirmed.

This is the first major attack on the armed forces this year in the region which witnessed a series of terror attacks on the army last year. Visuals from after the attack showed at least a dozen bullet holes on the windscreen of the vehicle that came under fire.

More details about the incident are awaited.
