BK School of Management fails to be considered for NIRF Ranking 2021

| Updated: September 10, 2021 13:43

The BK School of Management, once considered to be one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Gujarat, has not been ranked in the NIRF this year. Earlier, private institutions and magazines used to rank higher education institutions, but since last six years, the government has started ranking them. In the early years, participation was optional but this year it has been made mandatory for all government educational institutions. 6000 institutions participated for ranking this year.

Gujarat University is among the 50 best universities in the country in NIRF list but the management school under it, is not included in the first 75 institutions. It is a disgrace to this once reputed management school, established in 1976, that it could not be affiliated with AICTE – All India Council for Technical Association- due to lack of necessary infrastructure. The BK School of Professional and Management Studies was invalidated to be included in the NIRF’s ranking list due to the lack of a unique code for AICTE affiliated organizations.

Director Prateek Kanchan had written a letter to the GU Vice-Chancellor on December 4, 2020, when the university was considering applying for NIRF. Only 75 management institutes have been included in the NIRF list. Prateek Kanchan, Director, BK School, said, “BK School has not improved its infrastructure in over a decade, although its students have tripled during this time.” which makes it impossible for it to move forward as a separate entity to qualify for the NIRF rankings, “he added.

The business school building is in poor condition and in some parts the roof collapses at times. While Gujarat University is spending Rs 100 crore to improve and repair its infrastructure, it is disappointing that its leading business school is in such a state.
