Coincidence or a a part of a bigger design?
The appointmemnt of Mukul Goel in UP is being viewed as a move that establishes that unlike Gujarat where the DGP is also chosen by the High Command in Delhi, atleast the UP DGP is chosen by the State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.Uttar Pradesh is a State whose politics and bureacratic developments interest the Nation. The new DGP UP is Mukul Goel. The Home Deparment, obviously the most important department in the UP bureaucracy is headed by Awanish Awasthy. What has raised eyebrows is that both the DGP and the additional chief secretary, that is Manish Awasthy who heads the home department are batch mates. Both belong to the 1987 cadre and have been known to be more than friendly with each other. Another co incidence is that both of them are IIT grads and that too in electrical engineering. While Goel has done his engineering from IIT Delhi, Awasthy has done it from IIT, Kanpur.
Goel who was earlier posted as the ADG of Border Security Force took charge as the DGP post retirement of Hitesh Chandra on June 30. Awasthy has been heading the Home Department since
