All three men, seated in the stadium, were arrested under the Prevention of Gambling Act

The Chandkheda police arrested three men for betting on the T20 match between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad played at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

All three men, who were seated in the stadium, were arrested under the Prevention of Gambling Act.

In the first incident, a police constable stated in his FIR that he received an input at around 5.30 am that a man in a certain seat was inviting bets on the match. The police reached the seat in the President’s Gallery and found Dipak Mohanani, 34, a resident of Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha seated there. Mohanani was taking bets for 17 clients and had master IDs for two betting websites.

In the second case, a constable found a man using his mobile phone while seated in the stadium. Finding his conduct suspicious, he went to the man and checked his phone. He found that the man, Shubham Parmar, 28, a resident of Parmeshwar Society on IOC Road in Chandkheda, was placing bets on the match. Parmar told police that he got the gambling app ID from a man via Instagram.

In the case, again, a police constable, who was on duty at the stadium, found that a man  was operating his mobile phone suspiciously. Police approached the man, Priyank Darji from Sector 14 in Gandhinagar, and found him placing bets through a betting website on the match.
