A toddler playing in an apartment complex in the Nehrunagar area of the city was fatally run over by a car. The incident, captured on CCTV, has led to the arrest of the accused driver who is currently under police interrogation.
The CCTV footage, which has since emerged, shows the innocent child, identified as 1-year-old Aastha, approaching a parked car. In a disturbing turn of events, the driver moved the car forward instead of moving the child away, causing the car tyre to roll over the little girl.
The incident occurred yesterday at the Kalaniketen apartment complex. Aastha, the daughter of 26-year-old Mahaveer, a security guard residing in the same apartment complex, was playing outside when the tragic incident happened. Mahaveer was away buying vegetables when he received the devastating call about the accident involving his daughter.
Despite being rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, Aastha was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. Following an investigation, the police registered a case of accidental death at the A division police station. The driver, identified as Kanak Arjunbhai Lydia, was later arrested by the traffic police after reviewing the CCTV footage.
