Top 10 Indian Films 2022

Even though Bollywood fans are glad to be back in the theatres, but the enthusiasm for seeing Hindi films on the big screen this year was noticeably low. RRR, KGF Chapter 2, and other Tollywood films, of course, broke box office records and a lot of buzz both in India and abroad. During this time, several Bollywood movies continued their current trends and captured headlines. However, some films failed to deliver a well-seasoned and spicy storyline. IMDb has released a list of the top ten most popular Indian films of 2022. Let’s take a look at those: 

1. RRR 

SS Rajamouli’s RRR takes the first place on the list. The film received two Golden Globe Awards. The film was a box office success when it was first released, but it only gained global attention after it was released online. Ram Charan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. are the main protagonists of this film, providing one of the most satisfying cinematic experiences for viewers. Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan are also featured in the movie.

2. The Kashmir Files

The controversial film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, recently made headlines after Israeli director Nadav Lapid, who served as chair of the IFFI jury, referred to it as “propaganda” during the festival’s closing ceremony. The film, which was released this year, was inspired by the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir in the 1990s. When it was first released, the film, which starred Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar, among others, sparked debate.

3. KGF Chapter 2 

KGF Chapter 2, one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, picks up Rocky’s story. The biggest box office hit of the year in India was the massively produced KGF Chapter 2, which proved that moviegoers would pay top dollar for top-notch entertainment.

4. Vikram 

Vikram, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was the film that reintroduced Kamal Haasan to the big screen after Vishwaroopam 2 in 2018. As suggested by the filmmaker in a recent roundtable interview with Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, the film launched a universe that would include sequels and spin-offs.

5.  Kantara 

Kantara, the biggest surprise of the year in Kannada, directed by Rishab Shetty, was made on a shoestring budget but ended up being a huge hit all over India. Both viewers and critics praised Rishab, who also played a significant role in the film, for being a piece of art that was deeply rooted in its culture. Although Kantara wasn’t released throughout all of India, its favourable performance in the domestic Kannada market made it possible for a national broadcast.

6. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, a biography of scientist Nambi Narayanan, starred R Madhavan in the lead role. The film, Madhavan’s debut as a director, was released in a number of languages but had its global premiere at Cannes earlier this year.

7. Major

In the lead role of the movie “Major,” Adivi Sesh portrayed Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a martyr who died during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The film depicted his life from childhood to the moment he chose to give his life to save the lives of many others who were trapped inside the Taj hotel during the crisis.

 8. Sita Ramam 

Sita Ramam, a love story starring Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur, became an unexpected Telugu hit. The producers then released the dubbed versions of the film throughout the country. Sita Ramam demonstrated that the audience was willing to embrace the love story genre again, despite the fact that it was once popular.

9. Ponniyin Selvan: Part One

The sequel to Mani Ratnam’s epic historical action drama masterpiece features a massive cast and takes place in 969 AD, during the Chola Empire’s reign. The movie, which is based on a series of novels by Tamil author Kalki, stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, and Sobhuta Dhulipala among others.

10. 777 Charlie

This Kannada film, directed by Kiranraj K and starring Rakshit Shetty and Sangeetha Sringeri, portrays the story of a dog and a lonely factory worker. The film had a small theatrical release, but after receiving positive reviews, it became one of the most widely discussed Kannada films of the year.
