In a bid to streamline his force and also take to task errant officers, IPS officer Amit Vasava has cracked the whip. The recently-posted officer (Superintendent of Police, Ahmedabad district) has suspended 12 police personnel (Ahmedabad) for absenteeism and dereliction of duty. All the officers were, however, drawing salary and perks as usual.

On assuming office, the tough cop is reported to have asked for the attendance register. “He examined the files in detail and even summoned those who were proxy signing for the absent officers. In all, 12 police inspectors and three junior officials have been suspended, the latter for covering up their absence,” shared police sources. Insiders also stated that some of the errant cops were not even in Ahmedabad since a year. “They were living in respective native places in Junagadh, Kheda and Banaskantha,” they added.
