Toxic Gas Leak Kills Three in Illegal Coal Mine Blast in Surendranagar

A horrific accident took place in Devpara village of Surendranagar district, where three workers from Rajasthan were exposed to a deadly gas leak caused by a bomb blast using gelatin sticks. The blast was part of an illegal coal mining operation, which was carried out by carbosels without any permission or safety measures. The workers were trapped inside the mine and suffered severe injuries. Three of them succumbed to their wounds, while the other two were admitted to the district government hospital in a critical condition.

The police have registered a case of negligence against the carbosels and are investigating the matter. Surendranagar DySp H P Doshi said, “Three workers have lost their lives in the incident. Their post mortem is being conducted at the district government hospital and we have registered an FIR for negligence against the responsible people.” This is the second such incident being reported from Surendranagar district in the last 21 days, highlighting the grave danger of illegal mining activities in the region.
