Twelve Killed, Over 22 Critically Injured In Explosion In Telangana

| Updated: June 30, 2025 15:20

At least 12 workers were killed and more than 20 critically injured in an explosion at a chemical factory in Pashamylaram Industrial Area of Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Monday.

The incident occurred at the Sigachi Chemicals facility in Patancheru. A reactor reportedly exploded during routine operations.

The blast triggered a massive fire within the factory premises, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the site.

Officials have been quoted saying that six workers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment. At least 22 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals, two to three of whom are said to be in critical condition.

Earlier in the day, Inspector General of Police Satyanarayana was quoted saying,“Eight people have died in the incident. 26 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals with serious injuries”.

He added that firefighting personnel, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Hydra cranes, and local police are actively involved in rescue operations.

“At the time of the accident, around 150 workers were present. About 90 of them were at the exact spot where the blast occurred,” Satyanarayana said.

Local authorities and fire personnel were engaged in rescue and containment efforts, with the injured shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The police cordoned off the area, and measures were being taken to ensure the fire did not spread further.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess whether safety protocols were followed.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the incident and issued orders to intensify relief measures. He directed that all necessary actions be taken to rescue any workers trapped in the factory and to provide emergency medical assistance to the injured.
