A parasailing mishap on Mandvi beach in Kutch led to the death of a 38-year-old man from Jamshedpur. He died after falling from a height, reportedly due to lack of safety gear.
While the incident occurred on May 17, the police booked four people including promoters of water sports activities company, Shiv Water Sports, late on Sunday night.
The Mandvi police have arrested the company promoter Pankaj Bhanushali and his partner Abbas Para, and are looking for two others who were handling the activity on the beach.
They were booked under IPC section 304 (causing death due to rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide ), and those of negligence. The arrested duo were remanded in police custody until May 21 by a local court.
Complaint of negligence
The victim, Baldev Singh, had come to Mandvi with his wife and two children for a picnic. They were staying at the house of Singh’s brother-in-law who works with the Air Force in Bhuj. His wife, Sukhvinder, has filed a complaint about the negligence of the operators.
Police said Singh went parasailing without being given proper safety gear and suddenly fell to the ground. He was dragged for several feet on the ground, resulting in severe injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Bhuj, where he died during treatment late at night.
His wife Sukhvinder told the police in the complaint that her husband was not given safety gear and the operators did not respond to her repeated inquries about it. The jeep started speeding and the sail crashed. Two operators ran away and she, with the help of some locals, rushed her husband to the hospital, the FIR states.
The authorities have temporarily halted all water sports activities at the beach.
