Indian cricket’s newest sensation announced himself in spectacular fashion on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26, as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a record-smashing innings that stunned fans and experts alike.
Batting with fearless intent, Suryavanshi became the youngest cricketer ever to score a List A century, reaching the milestone in just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. In the process, he also registered the second-fastest List A hundred by an Indian, just one ball slower than Anmolpreet Singh’s record effort last year.
The teenage prodigy was far from done after reaching three figures. He launched into an even more destructive phase, racing to 150 in only 54 deliveries, a feat that broke AB de Villiers’ long-standing world record for the fastest 150 in one-day cricket. For a time, Suryavanshi appeared on course to become the quickest player to a double century in white-ball cricket before being dismissed for a breathtaking 190 off 84 balls.
His innings was a display of pure power and precision, featuring 16 fours and 15 sixes, and came at a staggering strike rate of over 226. The Arunachal Pradesh bowlers had little answer as the youngster peppered all parts of the ground with remarkable composure.
Suryavanshi’s performance adds another chapter to a remarkable year. Earlier in 2025, he made headlines as the youngest player to debut and score a century in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and followed it up with a blistering 32-ball hundred for India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament.
At just 14, Suryavanshi is already redefining age barriers in professional cricket. As the Vijay Hazare Trophy unfolds, the spotlight will remain firmly on the teenager who is not merely setting records, but reshaping expectations of what prodigious talent can achieve at the highest levels.
