Wishes Pour In On Gujarat Foundation Day

| Updated: May 1, 2024 11:36

Earlier, Gujarat was part of the Bombay State, which had present-day Maharashtra and Gujarat

Gujarat Foundation Day, also called Gujarat Sthapana Diwas, is celebrated every year on May 1 to commemorate the formation of the state in 1960. It marks the culmination of a long struggle for a separate state based on Gujarati language and cultural identity.

Earlier, Gujarat was part of the Bombay State, which had present-day Maharashtra and Gujarat. Both Maharashtra and Gujarat became independent states after the government passed the Bombay Reorganization Act in 1960. The two states were formed on the basis of language.

Gujarat is India’s fifth-largest state. It shares its border with Pakistan on the northeast side. Gujarat has several UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Champaner Pavagadh, Rani ni Vav, Dholavira and more. The historic walled city of Ahmedabad was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage City list in 2017.

The state has played a pioneering role in the country’s economic development, and it was previously known as the ‘Jewel of Western India’ due to its economic prosperity.

Many of India’s freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Abbas Tyabji and others were born in Gujarat.

Greetings from PM, CM

Taking to his official X handle, the Prime Minister tweeted, “On this auspicious occasion of Gujarat’s Statehood Day, we remember the rich cultural heritage, remarkable achievements, and vibrant spirit of the people of Gujarat.”

He also wished the state prosperity and added, “May the state continue to flourish, prosper, and inspire generations with its ethos of entrepreneurship, resilience, and inclusive development. My best wishes to the people of Gujarat.”

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took to Twitter to wish the people of Gujarat on its 63rd foundation day. “Heartiest wishes to all the citizens on Gujarat State Foundation Day – Gujarat Gaurav Diwas. Grateful salute to all those who have contributed to the establishment and glorious development of the state.”

“Famous for its rich culture, generous hospitality, and natural beauty, Gujarat has made an unforgettable contribution to the unification of the country, right from the independence movement. Today, Gujarat is making an important contribution to the development of the country with its hard work, dedication, and cooperation. On the foundation day, I wish the best progress and all-round development to the sisters and brothers of Gujarat,” tweeted the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.

Statehood celebrations are held in Gujarat every year with great enthusiasm and zeal. Cultural events, flag hoisting ceremonies, parades, and gatherings are organised across the state to celebrate Gujarat Day. Many people took to social media to post messages on the occasion.
