After new challenges were faced by everyone during the Covid-19 pandemic wherein many people lost their job and others had a pay cut, it is to be marked that women representation has improved in the workplace, not only across roles but also hierarchies.

According to apna.co – India’s largest jobs and professional networking platform, 2021 has brought transformation. The job searching site has recorded around 50 lakh women users and shows trends that highlight the shift in the country’s rising workforce.

apna launched in Ahmedabad in August 2020 and witnessed an increase of over 200 per cent in female users in 2021. With more than 1.5 lakh female users from the city, the platform enabled 11 lakh interviews in the last year. The site believes that the trend will accelerate in 2022 as well.

As per the data from the site, the average woman in Ahmedabad interviewed for eight jobs in 2021–14 per cent more times than men. They are not only joining the workforce but also taking up non-traditional roles, including delivery partners, peons and drivers to name a few.

According to the site, women have put a foot forth in building professional networks as they have actively been part of apna communities that includes business groups, learning languages, government exams preparation, delivery person group, sales & marketing and telecaller groups.

Around, 58 per cent of the female users in Ahmedabad are 12th pass or lower and rely on apna to find jobs and build their professional network. The platform has over 23,000 jobs for women with such education qualifications.

Talking about these trends, Chief Business Officer, Manas Singh – apna.co said, “Trends from Ahmedabad are encouraging and signify an upward graph in women participation in the workforce. We are proud to become a safe space for our female users and will continue to support them as they join our mission of #AcceleratingIndia”
