On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Rajkot opened an addiction treatment facility on Tuesday. The AIIMS Rajkot has opened its outside patient section, and the multispecialty facility is projected to be fully operational by August 2023.
According to the AIIMS, in Gujarat, 24 percent of men and 8% of women use tobacco in some way. Every year on May 31, the World Health Organization (WHO) honours No Tobacco Day to raise public awareness about the consequences of tobacco use.
“We have opened this addiction treatment centre under the department of psychiatry,” AIIMS Rajkot executive director Dr. CDS Katoch stated. This clinic is dedicated to providing professional treatment and counselling to tobacco users in Gujarat who require help quitting or reducing their tobacco usage.” This clinic will be run by Dr. Gyatri Bhatiya, MD (psychiatric), and it will be open Monday through Saturday. Patients suffering from tobacco use disorder and other substance-related difficulties will be able to receive services such as medication and counselling at this clinic.
