YesMadam, a home service salon start-up, has been making headlines after it reportedly terminated employees who expressed feeling “significant stress” in a survey conducted by the company itself. A screenshot of an email from the company’s HR department announcing the decision has gone viral on social media.
According to the email, which was allegedly sent by the HR manager, the Delhi-NCR-based company had carried out the survey to assess employee stress levels. Based on the results, the company made the controversial decision to “part ways” with those who reported experiencing high levels of stress.
“Dear Team, we recently conducted a survey to understand how stressed you are at work. Many of you have shared your concerns, which we truly value and respect. As a company dedicated to maintaining a healthy and supportive work environment, we have carefully reviewed the feedback. To ensure that no one remains stressed, we’ve made the difficult decision to part ways with employees who indicated experiencing significant stress. This decision takes effect immediately, and affected employees will receive additional details separately. Thank you for your contributions. Best regards, HR Manager, YesMadam,” the email read.
However, the authenticity of the email screenshot is not confirmed yet.
The email’s direct tone and the choice to dismiss employees who voiced concerns about stress, rather than addressing their issues, have sparked backlash online.
One user remarked, “This is the most ridiculous layoff decision: YesMadam conducts a stress survey and then fires those who report being stressed.”
Another user added, “So a startup called YesMadam asks employees about their stress and then fires the ones who admit to being stressed.” Many have criticized the decision as counterproductive and lacking understanding.
“Can a company fire you for being stressed? It appears that just happened at YesMadam,” said Shitiz Dogra, Associate Director of Digital Marketing at IndiGo, who also shared the email screenshot on his LinkedIn page.
