Even as the “murder” of a class X student of a private school in Ahmedabad earlier this week by a fellow schoolmate has become a cause of concern, a class VIII boy was stabbed by a classmate in a primary school in Balasinor town of Mahisagar district on Thursday.
According to details, the victim sustained injuries on the waist, abdomen and shoulder. The injuries are not life-threatening.
Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the attack was a quarrel over a petty issue. The boy was stabbed thrice. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Mahisagar superintendent of police Jaydeepsinh Jadeja said the incident resulted from a scuffle during the recess.
It was about who would step out first when both the students had reached the classroom door at the same time.
According to the police, one of the boys punched the other during the recess. After the school ended for the day, one of them brought a knife and stabbed the other.
Police are looking into whether the accused had brought the knife in the school or managed to get it from somewhere.
Sources said the police would also look into whether the accused was “inspired” by Tuesday’s stabbing incident in Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Ahmedabad.
Nayan Santani had succumbed to the injuries in a hospital.
The incident sparked widespread protests and both the police and the district education office has initiated action against the school.
