₹100 Tool, ₹1 Lakh Theft: Interstate Bike-Lifting Gang Busted in Ahmedabad

| Updated: May 5, 2026 21:20

A spate of high-end motorcycle thefts across western Ahmedabad—including Gujarat University, Vastrapur, Sola and Bodakdev—has been cracked with the arrest of an interstate gang that used tools worth barely ₹100–200 to steal bikes in under half a minute.

The Zone-1 LCB squad busted the racket after analysing CCTV footage from multiple theft sites. The visuals revealed a pattern: three men arriving on a single bike, targeting parked premium motorcycles, and fleeing within 29 seconds.

Investigators say the gang specifically targeted models such as Yamaha R15, Yamaha MT-15 and KTM Duke—all popular, high-value sports bikes.

Three accused—Sunilkumar Garasiya, Kailash Rot and Vijesh Nanoma alias Vijju—have been arrested. All are residents of Rajasthan who were living in Ahmedabad and working as daily-wage labourers and delivery agents. Police say they used their delivery routes as cover to scout locations where expensive bikes were left unattended for long hours.

The method was simple but effective. Using low-cost tools, the accused would break the steering lock, directly wire the ignition, and ride away within seconds—often under the cover of darkness.

The gang is believed to have six members. The alleged kingpin, Thavara alias Thavo Hansaram Garasiya from Abu Road in Rajasthan, would travel to Ahmedabad specifically to execute thefts. He was assisted by accomplices Vikas and Praveen, who are currently absconding. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the remaining suspects.

During interrogation, a striking motive emerged: the accused reportedly stole bikes to fund personal expenses, including shopping for girlfriends and maintaining a lifestyle beyond their means. The stolen motorcycles were then transported to hilly areas around Mount Abu and sold at roughly half their market value.

Police have recovered 13 stolen bikes worth approximately ₹13 lakh so far. Officials are now probing whether the gang is linked to other theft cases in the city or beyond.

The case highlights how organised theft networks are increasingly using speed, surveillance gaps and low-cost tools to target high-value assets in urban pockets.
