2008 Ahmedabad Bomb Blast: Some Unheard Facts About Investigation Officer Abhay Chudasma

A serial blast which took place on 26 July 2008 shook the entire city. 56 Innocent people were killed in 21 blasts within 70 minutes over 14 different locations. During the blasts, DCP Abhay Chudasma was at Gayekwad Haweli’s Crime Branch office.

After receiving the information of blast near Narol, DCP tried reaching the spot but before reaching the spot he received the news of another blast. And within the span of 15 minutes it was confirmed that city is under attack of serial blasts. Teams were assigned and investigation was undertaken without wasting any further time and the city was under rains.

Due to sudden blasts, there was high amount of distress among the citizens and people were in high panic. Mobile phones stopped working. The Crime branch was detaining people who were under suspicion. All the informers were put alert and the city was under traffic jam. In about few minutes, the wireless network of police was also jammed.

One informer called and informed DCP Chudasma about the car that was used in terror attack was in Bharuch. The team ran to Bharuch and confiscated the vehicles. They successfully got hands over the contact numbers of the culprits which became the main key to the investigation.

July 26 was when Abhay Chudasma and his team took their last meal on his home. Till the month of November, the entire team worked continuously on the investigation. Team consisted of officers like DGP Ashish Bhatia, Abhay Chudasma, Rajendra Asari, Mayur Chavda, V R Toliya, Usha Rada, P G Vaghela, Girish Singhal, Himanshu Shukla, Mayur Chavda, K K Patel and Many others worked day and night on the investigation.
