A police team was conduction a search operation led by SP Soumya Munde and suddenly a gunfight broke out in the morning of November 13 at Korchi in Mardintola forest.
In the encounter, as many as 26 Naxals were killed including police officers in Gadchiroli district – which is over 900 km from Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Superintendent of Police Ankit Goel said that 26 Naxals were eliminated in the encounter with the C-60 unit of Maharashtra police in the jungles of Gyarapatti in Gadchiroli district.
Among the injured, four police personnel also suffered injuries in the operation and were airlifted to Nagpur. They were admitted to Critical Care Complex of Orange City Hospital and Research Insitute for treatment.
Reportedly, a top rebel leader is suspected to be involved in the Bhima Koregaon case and wanted by NIA was among them. The identity of the slain Naxals however is yet to be ascertained.
