After a major fire broke out in a residential highrise in the Ellisbridge area on Friday morning, the Ahmedabad fire and emergency services (AFES) rescued nearly 45 persons from the 24-storeyed building. Two people were hospitalised after they inhaled smoke.
A short circuit sparked a fire in the electric cable duct on the 12th floor of Takshshila Air, one of the tallest residential buildings first constructed in the city. The fire soon spread to the 18th floor.
Building residents alleged neither the fire safety equipment nor the alarm worked after the fire broke out around 6.15 am.
