50 women artists exhibit over 100 paintings of Lord Ganesha

Creative spirits moved across the room ushering the Elephant God on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. A display of some beautifully created over 100 paintings of Lord Ganesha adorned the walls of L&P Hutheesingh Visual Arts Centre on Thursday.

The exhibition titled ‘Ganesha’ is organised by the Gujarat Women’s Artist Association and has on display works of 50 women painters. The association is headed by Ajit Patel, Arvind Vakani, Nayna Mevada and Hansa Patel and organises two such shows, twice a year, for 11 years. one show is held on women’s day and the other on Ganesh Chaturthi.

“We are proud to provide platforms to those women who regardless of being housewives are passionate about art and creating artistic things. We thrive by providing platforms to such women,” said Hansa Patel, convener of the association. During the inaugural ceremony, cardiologist and chief guest for the evening, Dr Jay Shah said, “I had no idea about this association but the moment I got to know about their work I immediately said yes to come here and be the chief guest. I took just a glance at every painting but I could feel the depth of the artists’ talent. We must appreciate this extraordinary talent and take steps to take this talent to next level.”

The exhibition had over 100 various paintings & art forms created on Lord Ganesha. The artists have used various techniques and themes to create extraordinary art. These women artists come from various walks of life, and have their own different stories to tell, through their artworks.
