IISc Beats IITs, Comes First With Respect To India In QS World University Rankings

| Updated: June 9, 2022 15:47

IISc has shifted 31 ranks to the North in QS World University Rankings and emerged as the top Indian college to make it to the list. IIT Bombay is the second highest ranked Indian Institute while IIT Delhi falls to third place. These three colleges, ranking 155, 172 and 174 respectively, are the only colleges to make it to the top 200 in worldwide rankings.

IISc is one of the very institutions to improve upon four out of six parameters based on which rankings are made. The parameters are as follows – academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international-student ratio.

The university was already ranking high on citations per faculty, being the world leader for the same, but this time it is its improvement in other areas that has led to an upliftment of its rank.

It gained 4/6 in its rating metrics as it drastically improved in its number of International Faculty. It also significantly improved Academics and’employer’s reputation, which also contributed to it climbing to the top of the ladder of India’s educational hierarchy.

According to a London-based higher education analytics firm,IISc Banglore is the world’s top research university, achieving a wholesome score of 100/100 for this particular metric. Many universities out of the 41 that made it to the list have performed poorly on the faculty student ratio. However, it is an accomplishment that this time at least two universities have made it to the list among 250 for Faculty to student ratio, while none came to the list in previous editions.

India ‘s accomplishment in the rankings is largely IIT driven, as besides IISc, only eight universities and all of them IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati and Indore) have made it to the top 500 globally.
