The Impact Of Plastic On Nature

| Updated: February 7, 2023 13:36

Plastic is a word used in our day-to-day lives and on which we all are dependent. Everything around us is made from plastics be it bottles, tubs, plates or about everything plastic. Although many of us prefer to use it, with every upside, there is always a downside to it.

Plastics have wreaked havoc throughout the world. They are responsible for various types of pollution like land pollution, water pollution, air pollution and many more. Being non-biodegradable, they are a major source of land pollution. Studies estimate that one-third of the total plastic pollution ends up on land causing harm to various organisms.

Sea turtles are the animals that are being affected by plastics. Plastic straws are the major cause for this as they mainly entangle the neck of these turtles causing shortness of breath due to which they die. Plastic waste which gets accumulated in the water bodies destroys both flora and fauna.

Recently, the burning of plastics has caused immense pollution in many districts of Uttar Pradesh like Muzaffarnagar and other districts. The burning of plastics can cause the release of many harmful gases like sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide etc causing various problems like the greenhouse effect, global warming etc.

Many measures have been taken to reduce plastic pollution such as a ban on plastic straws has taken place in many places. A ban on plastic bags has taken place in many countries and people are promoting the use of cloth bags. Implementation of the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is being done on a very large scale.

Sooner or later, we must implement these measures to protect our environment in the future so that our future generations can also enjoy it like us.
