Viral Infections Rise In Ahmedabad

| Updated: October 20, 2025 17:01

As Ahmedabad’s temperatures witness a sharp difference of over 14 degrees Celsius during the day time and night time, viral infections are on the rise.

The city’s maximum temperature climbed from 33 degrees Celsius on October 9 to 37.1 degrees Celsius on October 17 — a rise of 4.1 degrees in just one week and 1.3 degrees above normal. With the minimum temperature at 23.1 degrees Celsius, the sharp 14.1-degree difference between day and night temperatures has left residents adjusting to drastic weather fluctuations.

A surge in viral infections is reported at the clinics of the physicians and the trend is likely to continue till winter sets in properly.

Across the state, the minimum temperatures ranged between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius, except for Naliya (18.5 degrees Celsius) and Kandla (18.9 degrees Celsius).

Talking to Vibes Of India, Dr. Bharat Gadhavi, president Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, attributed the viral infections to the humidity and the change in the temperatures. According to him, viruses thrive under humid conditions. He advised that people suffering from cough and cold should not self-medicate. They should visit a physician and undergo a test as these days cases of malaria and dengue are also found, he added.

Health experts advise people with conditions like bronchitis to cover their nose and mouth during Diwali festivities if symptoms persist.

Dr. Mitul Thakkar, an ENT Specialist, told Vibes Of India that this year the monsoon was extended and the spells were severe. This, according to him, is the reason for humidity.

He said that it is fine to follow home remedies for cough and cold for persons not having any medical conditions and not having high fever. However, if the fever persists for three to four days then the doctor should be consulted, he said.

Normally, cough and cold lasts for three to four days. But, these days it lasts for more than a week or ten days and doctors attribute it to perhaps some mutation of viruses.
