Nearly eight weeks after hitting theatres, Dhurandhar continues to defy box office fatigue, scripting a historic run in the Indian market.
The Aditya Dhar-directed spy thriller has now crossed a landmark no Hindi film had reached before—Rs. 1000 crore gross within India—cementing its status as a once-in-a-generation blockbuster.
The film’s extraordinary momentum, visible from its opening weeks, has shown no signs of slowing down. After dominating box office charts for six consecutive weeks with record-setting daily collections, Dhurandhar achieved its biggest milestone on its 53rd day in cinemas. Strong footfalls over its eighth weekend, coupled with a Republic Day boost, pushed it past the four-figure mark domestically.
During its eighth weekend, the Ranveer Singh-starrer added Rs. 2.9 crore net to its tally, followed by another Rs. 1.25 crore on January 26. These collections took the film’s Indian earnings to Rs. 1002 crore gross, translating to approximately Rs. 835 crore net. Until now, the highest domestic gross for a Hindi film belonged to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which had peaked at Rs. 760 crore in India.
With this achievement, Dhurandhar has entered an exclusive club of just four films to have crossed the Rs. 1000-crore milestone in the Indian market. Notably, it is the only Bollywood production on the list. The top spot remains with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, which amassed Rs. 1,471 crore domestically, overtaking SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion that had set a record of Rs. 1,417 crore in 2017. The third member of the elite group is Kannada blockbuster KGF Chapter 2, led by Yash, with Rs. 1001 crore in India.
Beyond its domestic dominance, Dhurandhar has delivered a robust performance overseas as well. Despite facing a ban in Middle Eastern markets, the film has earned over $33 million internationally. As of January 28, its worldwide box office collection is nearing Rs. 1300 crore.
Headlined by Ranveer Singh, the high-octane espionage drama features an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film’s success has already paved the way for its sequel. Dhurandhar 2 is slated for a March release, promising to bring the franchise’s storyline to a close.
