A road accident in Gujarat’s Kheda district has taken an unusual and painful turn, with a 32-year-old man ending up listed as an accused in the very case linked to his own death.
The incident involves Hitesh Mistri, a resident of Pij village in Vaso taluka, who died while undergoing treatment at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on January 30. His family has now approached the police, alleging lapses in medical care and calling for a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to his death.
According to a complaint filed by Hitesh’s younger brother Ravi Mistri at the Vaso police station, the chain of events began on the evening of January 26.
Hitesh was riding his motorcycle from Nadiad towards Pij when a stray dog suddenly ran across the road near Shreeji Villa Society. In trying to avoid the animal, the bike reportedly skidded, throwing him off balance and causing him to fall.
According to media reports, he suffered serious injuries, particularly to his left leg, along with wounds on other parts of his body.
Family members rushed him to a private hospital in Nadiad, where he was admitted. He was later taken for a CT scan and then brought back to the same hospital for further treatment.
Doctors performed surgery on his injured leg on January 29. However, soon after the procedure, his condition reportedly began to deteriorate.
The complaint alleges that Hitesh developed breathing problems and required ventilator support, but the facility was unable to arrange one immediately. His family claims the delay worsened his health rapidly.
As his condition became critical, doctors referred him to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The family transported him there in the early hours of January 30, hoping for urgent advanced care.
Despite efforts by doctors, Hitesh could not be saved. He passed away around 11 am that morning.
According to reports, the family says the tragedy was compounded by what they describe as a lack of timely medical support at key moments. Ravi’s complaint seeks a legal probe into whether proper treatment protocols were followed at both hospitals.
Police officials said they will examine hospital records and reconstruct the timeline of events to determine if there were any lapses.
In a development that has left the family distressed, the accident has been registered as a case of negligent driving — with Hitesh himself named as the accused.
Since no other vehicle was involved and the crash was a single-bike accident, police booked the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, which require an FIR even when the victim is the only person involved.
Reports said Vaso police confirmed that a case has been registered and further inquiry is ongoing to establish the full sequence of events, including the medical treatment provided before his death.
For the family, the loss remains unbearable — not only because of the sudden accident, but also because they feel unanswered questions still surround the care he received in his final hours.
