Gujarat Caste Certificate Row: Two Brothers, Two Reservation Categories? Yuvrajsinh Jadeja Seeks High-Level Probe

| Updated: June 10, 2026 20:45

A fresh controversy over caste certificates has surfaced in Gujarat after youth leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja alleged that two real brothers from the same family in Vasundhara village of Wankaner received benefits under two different reservation categories. According to him, one brother secured a government job under the SEBC (OBC) category, while the other allegedly obtained benefits under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Based on these allegations, Jadeja has demanded a high-level investigation into caste certificates, government recruitment, local body elections, and benefits received under government welfare schemes.

Addressing a press conference, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja presented several documents, including 7/12 land records, Village Form No. 8-A, birth certificates, and school leaving certificates, claiming that both individuals are sons of the same father, Revabhai Hamirbhai Sarasaiya. He questioned how two brothers from the same family could avail benefits under different reservation categories and called for authorities to verify the authenticity of the caste certificates.

According to the allegations, Haresh Revabhai Sarasaiya was selected as a Revenue Talati in the 2015-16 recruitment under the SEBC (OBC) category and is currently serving in Morbi. On the other hand, his brother Navghan Revabhai Sarasaiya was allegedly selected as a Junior Clerk in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation during the 2023-24 recruitment under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

Jadeja further claimed that in 2021, Navghan had contested the Wankaner Taluka Panchayat election from an ST-reserved seat using an ST certificate. He questioned whether the certificate had been properly verified by the election authorities before allowing the nomination. He also presented documents related to the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme, alleging that different caste details had been mentioned by members of the same family in different applications.

Another allegation made during the press conference was that the family owns around 15 bighas of agricultural land and already has a member working in a government job. Jadeja said authorities should examine whether any government welfare benefits were obtained in violation of eligibility rules.

Yuvrajsinh Jadeja said, “Reservation is meant to protect the rights of genuine beneficiaries. If bogus caste certificates are used to secure government jobs, election benefits, or welfare schemes, it is a serious injustice. The government must conduct a high-level investigation, verify the caste certificates, examine the role of officials who issued them, and take strict legal action against anyone found guilty.”

Jadeja has demanded that the State Government, Social Welfare Department, Revenue Department, Recruitment Boards, Election Commission, and Vigilance authorities jointly investigate the matter. He has also sought verification of the caste certificates, scrutiny of the recruitment process and election documents, and legal action under applicable laws if any irregularities are established. He further said that if the allegations are proven, authorities should take appropriate decisions regarding any government jobs, benefits, or other facilities obtained through such certificates.

Following these allegations, the administration has stated that the matter concerning Revenue Talati Haresh Revabhai Sarasaiya will be examined. Officials said he had obtained his job on an SEBC seat and that since his original cadre belongs to Jamnagar district, information will be sent from Morbi to the Jamnagar Collector for further inquiry and necessary action. Records indicate that he joined duty in Morbi on May 29, having earlier served in Jamnagar after being recruited as a Revenue Talati in 2016.
