A major accident occurred on Pavagadh Hill in Gujarat early Thursday morning, triggering panic among pilgrims visiting the popular religious destination. The incident took place near Patiyapul at around 5:00 am when large rocks rolled down the hillside, trapping several devotees beneath the debris.
According to preliminary information, the rockfall may have been caused by soil erosion and the increased flow of rainwater following recent rainfall in the region. Authorities believe the loosened soil and water flow caused heavy rocks to break loose and crash down the hill.
The sudden incident left several pilgrims trapped. So far, authorities have recovered the bodies of two pilgrims from the site, casting a shadow of grief over the area. Officials fear that more people may still be trapped beneath the rocks, and search operations are continuing.
As soon as information about the accident was received, police officials and members of the ropeway team rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue operation. Rescue and relief personnel have been working continuously to clear debris, search for victims and assist anyone who may still be trapped or injured.
Police teams from Pavagadh, along with other emergency response units, have joined the operation and are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have also started investigating the exact circumstances that led to the rockfall.
The incident has raised concerns among pilgrims and local authorities, particularly as heavy rains continue to affect hilly areas across the state. Officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the accident and assess whether additional safety measures are required in the area.
Rescue operations remain underway, and authorities are continuing their efforts to locate any other pilgrims who may be trapped beneath the debris. Further details are awaited as the search and rescue operation continues.
