In a shocking case from Ahmedabad, police have arrested four people, including a lawyer, for allegedly plotting the murder of a creditor over a loan dispute. Investigators claim the lawyer offered ₹20,000 to a contract killer to eliminate the lender after fearing he would lose his mortgaged house because he had failed to repay a ₹4 lakh loan.
The victim, Nandakumar Mudaliyar (51), survived the attack despite being stabbed four times while at his shop in Vivekanandnagar Sector 4/C on July 9.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder, and further investigations into the alleged conspiracy are underway.
Lawyer and Three Others Arrested
According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as:
Rajesh Mahida (33), an advocate from New Vatva.
Imtiyaz Shaikh (45), a resident of Vatva.
Azharuddin Shaikh (22), from Ratanpur village in Kheda district’s Matar taluka.
Saro Ansari (26), also from Vatva.
Investigators believe each of the accused played a specific role in planning and carrying out the attack.
Victim Attacked Inside His Shop
Police said Mudaliyar was present at his shop in Vivekanandnagar Sector 4/C at around 8.15 pm on July 9 when an unidentified man entered the premises and allegedly stabbed him four times before fleeing.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed for medical treatment. Following the incident, an FIR was registered for attempt to murder.
Initially, the case remained unsolved, prompting teams from the Vivekanandnagar Police Station and the Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch to launch a detailed investigation using technical surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Investigation Uncovered the Alleged Conspiracy
As the investigation progressed, police traced and arrested the alleged attacker, Imtiyaz Shaikh.
According to investigators, his interrogation led police to uncover what they describe as a planned contract attack involving multiple individuals.
The investigation eventually resulted in the arrest of the lawyer and two other alleged conspirators.
Loan Dispute Allegedly Led to Murder Plot
According to Inspector Prakash Parmar of Vivekanandnagar Police, the victim had lent ₹4 lakh to advocate Rajesh Mahida around six months ago. Police said Mahida had mortgaged his house to Mudaliyar as security for the loan.
However, when Mahida allegedly failed to repay the money within the agreed period, Mudaliyar reportedly initiated steps to take possession of the mortgaged property.
Investigators believe the lawyer feared losing his house and allegedly decided to eliminate the creditor instead of repaying the loan.
Police allege that the attack was planned to prevent the victim from enforcing his legal rights over the mortgaged property.
Police Reconstruct How the Attack Was Planned
Investigators claim Rajesh Mahida allegedly promised ₹20,000 to have the attack carried out. According to police:
Azharuddin Shaikh allegedly introduced the attacker to Mahida.
Saro Ansari allegedly acted as the link between the accused persons.
Before the attack, the group allegedly conducted reconnaissance of the victim’s shop using a Tata Punch car.
Police said Imtiyaz Shaikh was later sent to the location on a Suzuki Avenis scooter, carrying a knife that was allegedly used in the attack.
Investigators believe the assault was carefully planned before being executed.
Weapons, Vehicles and Phones Seized
During the investigation, police seized several items believed to be connected with the case. These include:
The knife allegedly used in the attack.
The Suzuki Avenis scooter allegedly used by the attacker.
A Tata Punch car allegedly used for reconnaissance.
A CNG autorickshaw.
Four mobile phones.
Police are also examining financial transactions and collecting additional evidence to establish the alleged conspiracy and verify the movement of money connected to the contract attack.
Investigation Continues
Police say the investigation is still underway and further evidence is being gathered.
Officials are verifying the financial trail, examining digital evidence and questioning the accused to establish the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
The case has highlighted how a financial dispute allegedly escalated into a planned attempt on a person’s life. Investigators are continuing to probe the role of each accused while building the case based on physical evidence, witness statements and financial records.
