After the spectacular in Punjab AAP is all set to put its foot on two other states, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and as they reach for other two wins a speech by Arvind Kejriwal resurfaces again and again, “Mujhe rajneeti karni nahi hai aati, ji (I don’t know how to do politics).” But the line that comes immediately after, captures the essence of AAP’s political appeal: “Par mujhe school banana aata hai, aspatal banana aata hai (But I know how to build schools, hospitals).”
Elections are soon to be held in Gujarat and the party has already started planning for their campaigns in order to fill in the gap caused by Congress. It is speculated that next month, Kejriwal and Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are supposed to travel to Gujarat state to strengthen the campaign strategies. They are yet not sure about the results but things have changed in the state after Patidar agitation, Una agitation, and Congress’ impressive show in 2017. Now that Congress has gone weak they have a higher hope of winning these constituencies. It has already set its foot in Surat by winning 27 seats in the civic body polls and is now strengthening its hold in the Saurashtra areas.
Congress voters have shifted to AAP in Delhi but still, they are focusing on these two states as the Congress performed comparatively well in 2017 polls and so they seek Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh to target next. The spectacular win in Punjab has opened doors for them to win in these two states and it makes their campaign game stronger.
