Adani Group Pledges Rs 2,000 Cr for 20 New Schools

| Updated: February 17, 2025 18:56

The Adani Group has announced a Rs 2,000 crore donation for the establishment of at least 20 schools across India, continuing to unveil details of the Rs 10,000 crore philanthropic commitment made during the wedding of Gautam Adani’s younger son, Jeet.

The announcement follows a previous commitment of Rs 6,000 crore towards the construction of hospitals and an additional Rs 2,000 crore allocated for skill development initiatives.

The donation will be used to establish world-class educational institutions in partnership with GEMS Education, a leading global provider of K-12 education.

The Adani Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the conglomerate, confirmed that the collaboration aims to make high-quality education and learning infrastructure accessible to people from all segments of society.

In a statement, the Adani Foundation said, “With an initial donation of INR 2,000 cr from the Adani family, the partnership will prioritise making world-class education and learning infrastructure affordable to people from all strata of society.”

The announcement comes after Gautam Adani had committed Rs 10,000 crore to social causes earlier this month when his son Jeet Adani got married.

The statement also mentioned that the partnership with GEMS Education would result in the creation of research institutions dedicated to enhancing teaching competencies through innovation and capability development.

The first “Adani GEMS School of Excellence” is set to open in Lucknow during the 2025-26 academic year.

According to the Adani Foundation, over the next three years, at least 20 such schools will be established in major metropolitan cities, with plans to expand to Tier II to IV cities in subsequent phases. Thirty per cent of the seats in the CBSE curriculum at these schools will be reserved for underserved and deserving children.

The collaboration will leverage the Adani Group’s extensive infrastructure capabilities across India and GEMS Education’s expertise in educational development to create a scalable, affordable, and sustainable model for quality education.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, remarked, “This initiative reflects our commitment to making world-class education affordable and widely accessible. By adopting global best practices and innovative digital learning through our partnership with GEMS Education, we aim to equip the next generation of change-makers to become socially responsible leaders in India.”

Sunny Varkey, Founder and Chairman of GEMS Education, added, “Our vision has always been to make quality education accessible to every learner, regardless of their socioeconomic background. The collaboration with the Adani Foundation will strengthen us to expand our reach and impact, bringing our global educational expertise to learners and teachers in diverse regions of India.”

The collaboration aims to focus on building the nation’s youth, believing that sustainable development requires a strong, committed focus on the younger generation. The schools will feature a global curriculum alongside the best of Indian study boards.

Since its inception in 1996, the Adani Foundation has been committed to making strategic investments in social welfare, focusing on education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, climate action, and community development. It operates in 6,769 villages across 19 states, impacting the lives of children, women, youth, and marginalised communities.
