An unusual marriage claim has come to light in Ahmedabad, where a 37-year-old woman has reportedly claimed that she married her 83-year-old NRI uncle in 2022. The case has raised questions over a family property dispute involving assets worth more than ₹25 crore, with the elderly man’s son alleging a conspiracy to take control of his father’s wealth.
According to the complaint, the woman has presented a marriage certificate from Maharashtra to support her claim. The dispute came to light after the 83-year-old man died on August 1 and his son returned to India to look into his father’s affairs.
The son was reportedly shocked when his paternal cousin claimed that she was his mother. He has since approached the police, alleging that the marriage claim was part of an attempt to take control of his father’s property.
Woman Had Earlier Studied in Canada
According to the details reported in the case, the elderly NRI had sent the woman to Canada for her studies. After returning to India, she reportedly began living in the family’s luxury bungalow in Usmanpura, Ahmedabad, saying she would look after the elderly man.
The man, who was a US citizen, had reportedly worked abroad for years before returning to India to spend his retirement. He had divorced his first wife at the age of 61 before settling back in India.
The complaint alleges that the woman later claimed to have married him in 2022, when he was 80 years old and she was around 34.
Son Raises Questions Over Father’s Medical Care
The complaint also raises concerns about the elderly man’s medical care during his final months.
According to the son, doctors had advised regular dialysis for his father. However, he alleges that the woman stopped the treatment. The son reportedly travelled from the United States to India to arrange medical care for his father before returning abroad.
The complaint further alleges that dialysis was stopped again after the son left India. As the elderly man reportedly had difficulty taking food and water orally, the woman is alleged to have fed him using a baby’s feeding bottle.
The 83-year-old later died on August 1.
Allegations of Financial Transactions After Death
The dispute also involves allegations concerning the deceased man’s finances.
According to the complaint, the woman transferred ₹60 lakh from a security fund into her own account after his death. The son has also alleged that $30,000 kept in a locker was taken.
These allegations form part of the family’s wider dispute over the elderly man’s assets, which are reportedly worth more than ₹25 crore.
Woman’s Previous Marriages
The woman previous married in Canada and later divorced. She subsequently married an actor who had worked in the film Bajirao in Mumbai, according to the report.
She is also reported to have been living with another man for the past four years and to have a son. The complaint alleges that she listed the 83-year-old NRI as the child’s father and claimed that the child was conceived through IVF treatment.
The marriage certificate, the woman’s claim and the allegations concerning the property and financial transactions are central to the dispute.
The matter has now reached the police, with the son seeking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his father’s alleged marriage claim and the handling of his assets.
