| Updated: December 23, 2022 10:04

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport [SVPI] has undertaken various initiatives to handle the year-end passenger rush as air travel is growing and traffic has surpassed the pre-Covid levels. Passenger traffic has increased to an average of 33,000 passengers per day in December 2022, about 36% higher than in December 2021. In December 2022, total aircraft movements from the SVPI airport increased by an average of 16.5%, to 247 movements per day, compared to December 2021.

SVPI airport has requested passengers to report early for a seamless travel experience. Landside security personnel ensure no congestion at the drop-off point with added manpower during peak hours for seamless traffic management. The day’s peak movements and peak hour are identified and adequate manpower at all passenger touch point areas are deployed.

For senior citizens, passengers with special needs, and passengers flying with hand luggage, a dedicated lane has been activated, which will also expedite their entry into the terminal. Customer service executives have been deployed at various touch points like forecourt, check-in counters and pre-security checks. Additionally, a dedicated team has been deployed to assist passengers in using the Common-Use Self- Service (CUSS) machines.

Simultaneously, development work on the landside and terminals at SVPI airport is underway in order to add more passenger facilities and decongest the airport even further. To improve passenger convenience, a new arrival hall with two baggage carousels will be opened soon. To improve passenger experience, SVPI airport recently added 6 check-in counters in domestic terminals. SVPI airport has steadily increased its capacity to provide a better passenger experience.
