Ahmedabad: Congress Mocks Civil Body And BJP By Renaming Damaged Road ‘Mayor Road’

| Updated: August 26, 2022 11:36

Protesting against the precarious condition of the roads in Ahmedabad city, the Congress councillors used a novel way to highlight the issue. Some of the badly damaged roads were mocking “renamed” ‘Mayor Kirit Parmar Road’ and ‘Commissioner Lochan Sehra Road’.

Shehzad Pathan, the leader of opposition in AMC and the Congress councillor from Danilimda and other congress councillors went to a number of areas such as Vastral, Nikol, Naroda and Maninagar. They put up banners ‘naming’ badly damaged roads after the mayor
and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation commissioner. Congress workers filmed the protests and uploaded clips on social media.

Congress said AMC officials and the ruling party wrongly claim to have repaired 25,000 potholes in the city.” It was necessary to expose the civic authorities’ failure and the ruling party’s lie” Shehzad Pathan said adding “We carried out this drive where we put up banners and boards on roads that were badly damaged, renaming them after commissioner Sehra and mayor Kirit Parmar”

He said it is the ruling party’s responsibility to make motorable roads available to citizens. People are facing a lot of problems and AMC is not any action.

Shehzad Pathan alleged that AMC has sanctioned road repair tenders at a 30% premium. It spent Rs 6.9 crore on patching 30,509 potholes in 2020 and Rs 7.12 crore on 20,369 potholes in 2021. He said despite the BJP spending crores this year, there have been 83 large cave-ins across the city this year.
