Ahmedabad Cops Arrest 2 For Threat Messages During India-Aus Test In City

| Updated: June 2, 2023 10:31

The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police raided a premises in Bhiwandi in Mumbai’s outskirts on Thursday and seized four SIM boxes. The raids were in connection with the probe into threat messages sent by a pro-Khalistan group warning people against attending the India-Australia Test that was held in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium in March.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch, Jitendra Yadav, said that the police have identified two accused, Bhiwandi residents Mashid Khan, 43, and Mohammad Shahid Alam, 42. Raids were continuing in Bhiwandi on Friday.

This is the third such seizure made in the case. The first seizure was made in March at Satna in Madhya Pradesh. Two persons were arrested in connection to releasing bulk calls and audio video messages ahead of the Test match, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese.

The pre-recorded messages warned people to “stay at home” on the day of the match, saying that pro-Khalistan Sikhs were going to “storm Narendra Modi cricket stadium and install Khalistan flags”.
