Ahmedabad Couple Trying To Enter US Held Hostage By Pakistani Agent In Iran

| Updated: June 20, 2023 12:12

A young couple from Ahmedabad’s Naroda neighbourhood who intended to enter the United States illegally are being held captive in Iran by a Pakistani agent who is demanding payment for their release, according to the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Chaitanya Mandlik stated on Monday that the procedure was underway to file a first information report (FIR) in this regard at Krushnanagar Police Station in the Naroda neighbourhood and the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has begun an inquiry into the incident.

The Crime Branch will contact the Indian Embassy in Iran with all pertinent information because the incident occurred outside of the nation in order to gain the release of the pair, identified as Pankaj Patel and his wife Nisha Patel, both of whom are 29 years old, the official added.

The two sought to enter the US illegally, according to information provided to Krushnanagar police by the couple’s relatives, and they got in touch with a Hyderabad-based agent who set up their flight travel.

According to the agent’s plan, the pair was intended to fly into Tehran, Iran, and then follow instructions, according to the police. However, a Pakistani agent took them to a hotel where they were held hostages for ransom a few days ago after they landed at Tehran’s airport, according to officials.

The Pakistani agent and his allies beat Pankaj Patel, transmitted a video to his family, and demanded a sizable sum of money in exchange for the release of the couple, they continued.
