An Ahmedabad-based moneylender murdered a 40-year-old businessman from Chandkheda, Ahmedabad. On Monday, Kamlesh Patel, who dealt with mosquito and insect repellents, was beaten to death at his office near Tapovan Circle. Patel lived with his wife, Pratiti Patel (39), and his son at Urja Bungalows on new CG Road.
As per the FIR filed by Praitit, Patel borrowed money inconsistently for six years from the accused, Bhadresh Patel. Following lockdowns and night curfews, during COVID-19 era, his business suffered losses. As a result, he did not pay back the borrowed money to Bhadresh.
On Thursday, Pratiti Patel told the police, “Our repayments to Bhadresh became irregular. He started terrorizing and attacking us quite often.” On February 16, Bhadresh called Kamlesh, his wife, and his son to his house in Shivdarshan Society, Chandkheda. Later, he began demanding money and threatened them. She explained the incident to the police and said, “He hit my husband with a chair that caused severe injuries on his face and body. Later, he confined us in the house and said he would keep our son until he received his money back. After we pleaded a lot, he let us go.”
Kamlesh sent his wife and son to her parental house in Nadiad following the traumatising event. On Sunday, Patel’s co-worker called Pratiti and asked her to rush to the hospital in Ahmedabad. He informed her that Bhadresh severely beat up Kamlesh.
What Happened?
According to her, Jignesh Patel, Kamlesh’s staff member, narrated the incident to her. As per the FIR, Bhadresh barged into the office at around 12:30 PM on Sunday and started beating Kamlesh. He started asking for his money from Kamlesh. When the office staff tried to negotiate, Bhadresh threatened to kill them. Then, the staffers left the office, saving their own lives.
Then, Bhadresh hit Kamlesh Patel brutally, due to which he fell unconscious. After he hit him, Bhadresh left the office. When Jignesh entered, he found Kamlesh in a horrid condition and called the ambulance. They took him to a private hospital in Chandkheda, but he was declared dead on arrival.
The Chandkheda police registered a case of murder, unlawful captivity, and criminal intimidation against Bhadresh and began an investigation.
