Ahmedabad Metro project costing almost 12500 crores is coming to completion for the phases undertaken so far. It is likely that the Metro may start rolling in the weeks to come and start serving 32 stations of 40 km route.

Ahmedabad Metro will have two routes.

There will be an underground route of 6.60 km with 4 stations also.

1) The 15 stations of the Vasna APMC – Motera route are Jivaraj Park, Ravinagar, Shreyas, Paldi, Gandhigram, Old High Court, Usmanpura, Vijayanagar, Vadaj, Ranip, Sabarmati Railway Station, AEC, Sabarmati and Motera. It will take 38 minutes to reach from one end of this route to the other.

Vastral-Thaltej route 14.53 km 13 stations

2) The 17 stations of the Vastral – Thaltej route are Thaltej Village, Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Guru Kul Road, Gujarat University, Commerce Chha Rasta, S.P. Stadium, Old High Court, Shahpur, Ghee Kanta, Kalupur Metro Station, Kankaria East, Apparel Park, Amraiwadi, Rabari Colony, Vastral, Nirant Chowkdi and Vastral Village

The underground route includes 4 stations namely Kalupur, Shahpur, Ghee Kanta and Kankaria East. It will take 40 minutes to go from one end of this route to the other.

The maximum fare will be ₹ 25 and according to various stations ₹ 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 in multiples of five will be charged. It will take only one and a half minutes to reach from one station to another. This metro train will have three coaches in which up to 1000 passengers can travel and will run at a speed of 80 km per hour. On average 40 thousand passengers will travel every day.

However, most metro stations do not have parking facilities due to a lack of space. Keeping that in mind, it is planned to arrange a special e-rickshaw arrangement for the passengers. Passengers will be able to travel to the nearest BRTS station through an e-rickshaw.

Now the inspection of coaches, tracks of all three routes, and stations, including safety mechanisms have been completed by CMRS – Commissioner of Metro Rail Services and the safety clearance certificate is awaited.

In all likelihood, by 20th September, coinciding with the Navratri festival Metro train may start functioning.

It is also expected that the metro route between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will be open by 2023-24.
