Two days after it carried out three raids on liquor dens in Surat, the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) swooped down on Sunday in Ahmedabad. Two of the three raids on Sunday were on liquor dens while one was on a gambling den.

The SMC intercepted a mini truck near Nana Chiloda in Naroda on the service road to Gandhinagar and seized 1152 Indian Made Foreign Liquor bottles worth Rs 2.50 lakh.

The cops arrested Babulal Ramprem Yadav of Odhav, while Sonu Ghagharo, who was to receive the consignment is absconding.

The gambling den raid was carried out near Talavadi na Chapra in Amraiwadi and cops seized Rs34,640 in cash, 25 mobile phones worth Rs 89,000 from the spot.

Twenty-eight accused including Irfan Mankad of Sarkhej were arrested and handed over to Amraiwadi police. The third raid was carried out on a liquor den in Amraiwadi in which 106 bottles of IMFL, five litres of country-made liquor and Rs 44,920 in cash were seized.

Briefing further, the police shared that they were tipped off  about one Prasad Raichur, a resident of Ashwamegh Society in Amraiwadi. “We were told that he was selling illegally procured liquor from his house. He employed two men to deliver the liquor. We followed the lead and caught Gaurav and Surendra at the vegetable market on Sunday. Scared to be facing more charges than just being delivery agents, the duo took us to Raichur’s house,” shared police officials.

During the raid, the police also  seized a QR code scanner of a payment app, which helped Raichur facilitate the transactions.

All have been booked under charges of the Prohibition Act.
