Ahmedabad RTO Revokes Driving Licences of Drunk Driver After Destructive Rampage

| Updated: December 6, 2024 20:59

The Regional Traffic Office (RTO) in Ahmedabad has permanently revoked the driving licence of social media influencer Ripal Panchal, the accused in a case of drunk driving and causing significant damage to multiple vehicles. The action, taken on Friday, follows a request from the local police department.

Panchal, who was driving a luxury Audi car, caused chaos on Bopal-Ambli Road during peak traffic hours on the morning of the incident. No one was injured or died in the incident.

Witnesses reported that the incident began when Panchal’s Audi collided with a Harrier SUV near the ISKCON Bridge. He continued driving recklessly, hitting a three-wheeler and another car before crashing into a Nexon near a Tata Motors dealership. The events unfolded in front of horrified onlookers, who described Panchal as appearing heavily intoxicated and unconcerned about the havoc he had caused.

Notably, after the series of accidents, he was seen sitting inside the wrecked vehicle, smoking a cigarette. Eyewitnesses, angered by his actions, physically confronted Panchal before handing him over to the M Division traffic police.

This incident is not Panchal’s first run-in with the law. In May this year, he was involved in another traffic accident, where he struck an Activa rider, leaving the woman with fractures and multiple rib injuries.

The RTO’s decision to cancel his two-wheeler and four-wheeler licences permanently comes as part of a wider crackdown on reckless driving in the city.
