Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a two-day Science Conclave of State S&T Ministers at Science City in Ahmedabad. The objective of the event is to strengthen the significance and relevance of science and technology across the state.
The conclave will be held on September 10, 2022.
According to the sources, the conclave will explore state-specific technologies and innovations for adoption and scaling up through an integrated approach with the Centre’s collaboration.
Gujarat government’s Science City will witness an investment of INR 1000 crore in the next three to four years to augment and build state-of-the-art facilities about astronomy, space and others in their Ahmedabad property.
Sources stated that ‘Science City’ has invested around INR 700 crore to improve its facilities. The new investment will take the total investment to INR 1700 crore.
The DST has also planned to come up with Science Centres in each district of Gujarat with an investment of INR 10-15 crore per district, as stated by a source.
Currently, Science City in Ahmedabad offers an aquatic gallery, a robotics gallery, a nature park and other facilities like the Hall of Science, Hall of Space, Energy Education Park, Life Science Park and Planet Earth. It also has a children’s activity centre, thrill rides, a theatre and a musical fountain.
PM Narendra Modi on September 10 is likely to announce some of the additional upcoming facilities at the centre.
Science and Technology (S&T) ministers from all states, Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, administrators of Union Territories and in charge of the S&T departments will also attend the two-day conclave.
The conclave, organised by the Union S&T Department and hosted by Gujarat DST, will observe discussion and planning for the development of Science in India.
The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh has already reviewed the ongoing preparations.
While speaking to the reporters, Jitendra Singh stated, “The broad theme of the conclave will be to present a ‘Vision 2047 for S&T’ sector in reference to meeting the S&T challenges across the States.
