The Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad is set to host a new state-of-the-art convention, cultural and business centre near Tagore Hall, with an estimated project cost of Rs 792.50 crore.
With existing landmarks like Tagore Hall, Sanskar Kendra and an event centre in the vicinity, the upcoming facility is expected to significantly enhance the area’s utility. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials have expressed hopes that the development will also position the riverfront as a sought-after destination for weddings.
The project, slated for completion within two and a half years after approval, will feature an extensive array of facilities, including a hotel, an amphitheatre, parking for 1,000 cars and a performing arts theatre.
The state government will contribute Rs 500 crore towards the project, with the AMC funding the remaining Rs 292.50 crore. The proposal has already secured initial approval from the AMC Standing Committee. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will now be finalised and reviewed by the Standing Committee and the Corporation Board before being submitted to the state government for final clearance.
Devang Dani, Chairman of the AMC Standing Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Plans have also been made to develop this area of the Riverfront as a destination wedding venue. The AMC will build an exhibition and convention hall and a cultural plaza covering an area of 13,000 square metres.”
He further highlighted the centre’s facilities, including meeting rooms, a hotel, parking, a performing theatre, a theatre dome and an amphitheatre.
Although the riverfront already includes multi-level parking, the new centre will incorporate parking facilities for 1,000 cars to meet increased demand. To ensure seamless access and minimise congestion, TP Road, connecting the site to Ashram Road, will also undergo development.
