A violent altercation between two communities in the Khokhra area of Ahmedabad broke out after India triumphed over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday night. The altercation, which broke out around midnight, began as a victory procession but quickly descended into chaos, leaving two people injured.
According to reports, the violence started when a group of cricket fans near Anupam Cinema celebrated by bursting firecrackers.
A firecracker allegedly struck a young man, triggering an argument that escalated into stone-pelting between two communities.
Local police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured individuals were taken to LG Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible. Seven individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the stone pelting.
In the ICC Champions Trophy match earlier that evening, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets. Pakistan set a target of 241 runs, but India successfully chased it down with a commanding performance from their batsmen, further intensifying the historic cricketing rivalry.
