AICC Session in Ahmedabad: Congress Gears Up for Key Strategy Meet and Nationwide Yatra

| Updated: March 4, 2025 19:00

The Congress will hold its All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on April 8 and 9. Party leaders, representatives from across the country, and the party high command will participate. The session will focus on outlining the party’s future strategy and addressing challenges posed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As part of the preparations, AICC in-charge and party general secretary K C Venugopal visited Ahmedabad on Tuesday. During his visit, he paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at his memorial and inspected potential venues, including the Riverfront and Club O7, for the event.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and the AICC session are expected to be held at one of these locations.

Senior leader Mukul Wasnik had earlier visited Gujarat and stated that the party would move forward in line with Rahul Gandhi’s vision for 2027 assembly elections.

Congress is actively preparing for the elections, with a focus on strengthening its organisational base, particularly in rural areas. The AICC session will outline the party’s course of action and address challenges arising from the BJP’s alleged anti-people policies and attacks on constitutional values.

CWC member Jagdish Thakor noted that this will be the first AICC conclave in Gujarat in 64 years, the last being held in Bhavnagar in 1961 under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s supervision. “Arrangements for the stay and transport of around 3,000 AICC delegates have been made. We have shortlisted venues, and a final decision will be taken soon,” he said.

The session will begin with an extended CWC meeting on April 8, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Senior party leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress-ruled state chief ministers, national office bearers, and other key representatives, will be present.

Congress will also launch a nationwide ‘Save Constitution’ yatra from Ahmedabad alongside the AICC session. The Gujarat Congress is coordinating with AICC and other state units to ensure smooth execution.

“The AICC session and the yatra are two major events for the state unit,” Thakor said. “The leadership’s message will have national significance.”

Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Amit Chavda, confirmed that preparations for the session and yatra are progressing.

“It is an honour for us to host party functionaries from across the country. Planning for both events is underway. Our state in-charge, Mukul Wasnik, has consulted members of the Gujarat Political Affairs Committee. The AICC will guide us on execution, and we will follow through accordingly. A state yatra is also planned after the events,” he said.
