The Assessment and Tax Collection department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) sealed 971 properties under the recovery mega trigger drive on Wednesday and collected Rs 7.52 crore as property tax.
Of the total property sealed, 203 are from the East zone, 179 from the South zone, 175 from the Central zone, 152 from the North zone and 142 from the West zone.
In the North-West zone, 86 properties were sealed while 34 were sealed in the South West zone.
Revenue Committee chairman, Jainik Vakil said apart from sealing the properties, the civic body has also disconnected water and drainage connections of tax defaulters as part of the drive. He added that many defaulters turned up with a post-dated cheque towards the pending property tax.
In the South zone, drainage and water was disconnected at five properties while in the North West zone, the same could not be done since some properties did not have a water connection.
The civic body plans to aggressively pursue property tax defaulters in the coming days.
The civic body also collected Rs 68.21 crore as part of the Interest Rebate Scheme which was on from February 14 to February 22. North West Zone collected Rs 15.79 crore while the West zone collected Rs 11.89 crore. For the East zone, it was Rs 10.20 crore, Rs 10.83 crore for the South West zone, Rs 6.88 crore for the Central zone, Rs 6.13 crore for the North zone and Rs 6.49 crore for the South zone.
