AMC To Scrape Off Metro Pillar Blocking BRTS Route

| Updated: April 2, 2024 15:45

BRTS route has been blocked for a year though the metro above has been operational

Lack of coordination between Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has not just led to wastage of public funds, it has caused a block in a BRTS route. The P-355 pillar of the Vasna-Motera metro corridor has been blocking the BRTS lane in Akhbarnagar for a year.

AMC sources said that six inches of the metro pillar would be scraped off to resume BRTS services. The BRTS corridor between Kitli Circle in Akhbarnagar and Vyaswadi has not been operational for a year. BRTS buses have to take a detour and bypass the Akhbarnagar bus stand on one side. The metro services above have been operational.

The two government agencies reached a solution recently to shave off six inches off the pillar to enable buses to pass through. The problem began in 2021 when civic utility lines were damaged during the metro rail construction work and were subsequently repaired. A total of 15 stormwater lines and drainage lines were repaired and reinstated.

Also, the 132 Foot Ring Road through Akhbarnagar, Subhash Bridge Circle, Sabarmati Powerhouse towards Motera trijunction and Motera village to Tapovan Circle also suffered significant damage as a result of the metro construction work.
