AMC To Set Up 21 “Pink Toilets” Across City

Amdavad Municipal Corporation will soon come up with 21 “Pink Toilets” exclusively for women. Spread across seven zones in the city, the proposal will entail a total spends of Rs 10.68 crores. On Thursday, the AMC Standing Committee approved the work. The toilets will be built at a cost of Rs 5 crore initially. The operation and maintenance cost of Rs 4.5 crores for five years will be paid to the contractor who is assigned the work.

A “Pink Toilet” in Delhi

The “Pink Toilet” was developed by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The pink colour helps make the units easily identifiable, protects privacy, provides sanitary napkin vending machine, incinerators to burn them and prevent pollutions. This smart toilet compound exclusively for women and children provides basic check-up facilities, a nursing area, as well as safe drinking water.

First Pink Toilet in Delhi: On International Day for the Girl Child, NCPCR and South Delhi Municipal Corporation inaugurated the first Pink Toilet in the Vikaspuri area in 2017.
