A day after her husband died due to a severe heart attack on May 12, a 21-year-old woman hanged herself to death in the Liliya taluka of Amreli, Gujarat.
According to the officials, Princi Rathod hanged herself at her residence because she couldn’t handle the pain of losing her husband, Dhaval Rathod (25). The pair had a love marriage six months ago, said the police.
Dhaval, a farm labourer, had collapsed on May 12 when he was sitting at home. He was rushed to the government hospital in Liliya, where the on-call doctor pronounced him dead. Women in Dhaval’s family, including his wife, were not informed about his death.
When Princi learned of Dhaval’s death the following day, she went to her room and hanged herself.
After the couple’s death, the entire community was in shock. The funeral procession for the couple who were cremated on Saturday evening, drew a sizable crowd of people.
The police in Liliya have initiated an investigation and documented two cases of accidental deaths.
