Ben Stokes Marks 100th Test Match in IND vs ENG Series

| Updated: February 15, 2024 11:50

The third match of the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England has commenced at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The match, which is crucial for both teams, saw Indian team captain Rohit Sharma win the toss and opt to bat first. With both teams having won one match each in the series so far, they have entered the field prepared to secure a lead in the series.

On the very first day of the match, a significant world record was made. England’s captain, Ben Stokes, marked his 100th Test match, becoming the 16th cricketer from England to achieve this feat. This accomplishment also places him as the 76th Test cricketer overall to play 100 or more Test matches. This record is particularly notable when compared to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record for the most Test matches played in cricket history, with 200 matches to his name.

With Stokes’ 100th Test match, the England team has etched a major record in cricket history. England has become the first country from which 16 players have played 100 or more Test matches. Prior to this, no country had been able to achieve this feat. Currently, Australia holds the second place in this list with 15 players, followed by India with 13 players.

Ben Stokes made his Test debut for England in 2013. Since then, he has scored 6251 runs in 99 Test matches for England, including 13 centuries and 31 half-centuries. In addition to this, he has also taken 197 wickets in Test matches. Stokes has also played 114 ODIs and 43 T20 matches for England. He was part of the England team that won the ODI World Cup 2019 and T20 World Cup 2022.
